Fifth Grade Field Trip
"Meeting Nebraska's Leaders"
Capitol Building and Governor's Mansion
October 19, 2000

Fifth Graders traveled by bus to to the Nebraska State Capitol Building. The teachers and several parents traveled with them.

The capital tour guide, Gloria Witherspoon, explained the beautiful art work throughout the State Capitol Building. She also told them about some important Nebraska leaders.

Governor Mike Johanns welcomed all the fifth graders to the Capitol Building. He told them all to be the best they can be and to stay in school. He also told them to try their very best.

Retired District Judge Don Endacott greeted the fifth graders in the Supreme Court room. He explained how the court room worked and he answered the many questions.

All fifth graders enjoyed a lunch on the west steps of the Capitol Building near the Lincoln Monument. They enjoyed the beautiful day.

Senator Chris Beutler met students in the Warner Chamber of the Capitol Building to discuss how a law is passed. He discussed his job as a senator and how he and other senators are elected. He answered many good questions.

Next, the students visited the Governor's Mansion.

They waited near the entrance gate for the guide.

Students toured several rooms in the Governor's Mansion. The large reception room contained some beautiful Nebraska art work.
