Music...

In MUSIC CLASS these are some of things we are learning about:

    Kindergarten -- talking and singing voice; echoing with voice and with rhythm sticks; small percussion instruments

    First grade -- talking and singing voice; matching pitch; singing games and music from around the world; keeping the beat

    First grade students learned a folk song from Canada and created their own verses.

    Second grade -- matching pitch; keeping the beat; playing from low to high on the barred instruments

    Third grade -- reading rhythms--quarter and eighth notes; rhythm dictation; music and the underground railroad; names of the notes in treble clef

    Fourth grade -- reading rhythms; pioneer and patriotic songs for Heritage School; woodwind family; playing techniques for percussion instruments; improvisation on barred instruments

    Fifth grade -- identifying and performing rhythms; playing the conga drum; rondo form; "scat singing"; improvisation

    Sixth grade -- reading and performing 16th note rhythms; performing and creating pieces based on nursery rhymes

     

     

     

    Sixth grade students have created pieces based on Nursery Rhymes using repetition, ostinato (repeated patterns), body percussion and instruments.
